Sky+HD Review

The Sky+HD box gives you access to the world of HD (high definition), meaning sharper pictures, brighter colours, richer contrasts and full Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Sky+HD gives you access to the UK's widest range of HD channels - 50 channels in stunning high definition - when you subscribe to the HD Pack. Signing up for Sky+HD with the HD Pack turns your HD Ready TV set and home cinema system into a 'Supertelly' set up - the ultimate in high definition TV entertainment.

Not only does the Sky+HD box provide access to the widest range of HD channels in the UK with the HD Pack (an additional £10.25 a month) it also allows you to pause, record and rewind TV including live broadcasts. Sky+HD allows you to record either up to two programmes at once, or continue watching live TV whilst one programme is recording. You can record up to 80 hours of standard definition TV or up to 30 hours of HD programmes with the Sky+HD box.

You can plan your week's viewing ahead with the 7-Day TV guide and set recordings remotely via your mobile phone or a broadband connection with Sky Remote Record. You can also program your Sky+HD box to record an entire series of programmes so you don't have to worry about forgetting to record next week's episode.

The Sky+HD box costs just £49 on its own, with no extra charges for set-up or installation. Alternatively, the Sky+HD box is available free if you sign up for the HD Pack. The Sky HD Pack costs an additional £10.25 month on top of your Sky TV subscription and is required for you to access the 50 HD channels.

The BBC HD and Channel 4 HD channels are both free to air (no HD Pack subscription required) but you will need to send off for a viewing card in order to watch Channel 4 HD. When you sign up for Sky TV online, you also automatically qualify for £25 worth of M&S vouchers.

Upgrade to Sky+HD

Upgrade to Sky+HD and enjoy your TV, films and sport with spectacular sound and picture. The clearer, crisper experience is the best way to watch with Sky, and gives TV new depth and quality. When you upgrade to HD with Sky, you get the HD Pack which opens up all of the HD channels available as part of your subscription, so if you have Sky Movies or Sky Sports, then you get the HD channels, along with other HD entertainment channels such as BBC One HD and ITV1 HD.

Upgrading is simple; you need to make sure you have an HD-ready TV, and a Sky+HD box, then you add the HD Pack to your subscription, which you can do online. It’s hassle-free and you only have a short wait before the channels activate.

I have been with Sky for around 6 years now - and I have no complaints about their service. Sky+ is an essential part of my life - without it I would be lost. It allows me to watch all of my fave TV programmes and still have a social life at the same time! The ability to skip through the adverts is also a massive thumbs up - thanks Sky!

I've been with Sky for a few years now and I have to say that I have had no problems with the service at all. It can be a pain getting through to their call centre but I've had to do it so rarely that it doesn't bother me. The range of programming on Sky is excellent, arts and culture programming on Sky Arts to The Simpsons, there is rarely nothing on. Sky + has become essential for me so I can view the football anytime I like!

i recently changed to sky and decided to go for the sky hd package! to be honest, i was a bit scepticle as i didnt think there would be that much difference, how wrong could i be? i am a massive football fan, and watching a game in HD makes more difference than i could ever imagine, the sharper quality of picture is amazing ( and my tv is not the best, so god only knows how much better it would be on a slightly newer tv) i have even started watching more nature programmes as it really makes you feel that you could actually be there with attenborough himself. an extra £10 a month?? i would have paid more than double!! plus you get a nicer box than sky+ i say get the HD package and get even more out of your tv!!!

Ive been a Sky customer for over 10 years now. I now have sky plus and find that it has changed my viewing habits dramatically! Where as before I used to flick through the hundreds of channels almost continuously. I now have a "play list" of really great TV programs to watch and the press of a button. The one downside to Sky is that I do find it hard to get through to their customer service department during busy period to upgrade to SKy movies or SKy sports etc. Generally though I give Sky+ 9/10!...love it.
