Freeview+
Freeview+ is the name give to any brand of Freeview set-top box or product that allows you to pause and rewind live TV as well as record programmes for watching later. Some Freeview+ branded products allow you to watch one channel whilst recording a programme on another. Not all products marked as 'Freeview+' offer this, so be sure to check the specifications before buying. Some, but not all Freeview products also allow you to record an entire series of a programme from the programme guide (EPG). The hours worth of programmes you can record for later viewing varies between the brands and types of Freeview+ boxes, with some offering 80 hours worth of recording, others 120, and some offering up to 250 hours worth of recording.
Freeview HD
High Definition (HD) channels are coming to the Freeview platform. Whilst HD is already available on a number of platforms, Freeview HD will make the crystal clear picture and sharp sound quality of the HD format available to a greater number of people. Freeview HD is due to launch in 2010, in time for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 already have HD channels; these should be available from launch with FIVE are on target to launch an HD channel on Freeview HD in the latter half of 2010. It is not known about the cost of Freeview HD equipment yet, what will be needed or general availability other than that an HD Ready TV set will be required to watch any programmes in high definition. HD Ready TV sets are easily identifiable by the large black and white HD Ready logo visible on products in electrical retailers.
