How to Setup BT Vision

* Prices correct as of 31st December

This page is designed to give you a brief overview of how to go about setting up your BT Vision equipment. The information is taken from this PDF, which can be found at the Products and Services location of BT's website. Please note that Setanta Sports is no longer broadcasting in the UK.

When you receive your BT Vision welcome pack through the post you should receive the following:

You will also need the following to proceed:

The first thing you should consider when planning to set up BT Vision is the positioning of the BT Home Hub in your house. If you live in a busy household where with several computers all sharing the same connection at once, you'll probably have positioned your Home Hub as centrally as possible within your home, away from any mirrors or metal objects etc. Because of this you may not have set your BT Home Hub up in the same room where you are planning to have BT Vision (i.e. your living room). If you have then you will not need to use the two Powerline adapters which come included.

If your BT Home Hub and BT Vision Vision+ box are in the same room:

If you have and your BT Home Hub is close to the TV set through which you will be watching BT Vision, then you can simply connect the Home Hub to the Vision+ box by using one of the Ethernet cables with the yellow ends. Connect the Home Hub's Ethernet Port 1 to the LAN socket at the back of the Vision+ box.

After this is done, you should unplug your existing aerial; cable from the 'Aerial In' socket on your TV set, and connect it to the RF IN socket on the back of the Vision+ box. Once this is done, take the new aerial cable (the one which came included in the BT Vision welcome pack) and connect the RF OUT socket on the Vision+ box to the 'Aerial In' socket on your TV.

Finally, connect the Vision+ box to your TV using the SCART lead. Turn on your TV and make sure that your BT Home Hub is on before connecting your Vision+ box to the mains and turning it on.

If your BT Home Hub and BT Vision Vision+ box are not in the same room:

Using one of the Ethernet cables with the yellow ends, connect your Home Hub's Ethernet port 1 to a Powerline adapter. Plug the Powerline adapter directly into a mains socket and turn it on. Using the other yellow ended Ethernet cable, connect the Vision+ to the other Powerline adapter and plus this one into a power socket and turn it on. When you’ve plugged in both your Powerline adapters and turned them on, their Status lights should glow green.

It is important that you do not turn your Vision+ box on at this point, so do not hook the second Powerline adapter and the Vision+ box up to the mains using a multi-socket adapter.

After you have completed this set-up process, you should see a set of on screen instructions. It can take up to 30 minutes for the BT Vision Vision+ box to set itself up, during which time you will see some blank or blue screens - do not change TV channels or AV (audio visual) channels at this time as it could interfere with the set up process. The BT Vision box will eventually perfrom a scan for the Freeview channels through the aerial.
